Play-based Learning

Our Kindergarten program is child-centered and play-based. Children are involved in many different kinds of activities designed to help young learners explore, discover and grow. These activities are designed to encourage children to explore and investigate, observe and learn, and to think creatively.

The educator team uses guided play to help students to learn. The team observes, listens and interacts with the children while playing, and then responds with questions that challenge and extend learning. The educators will ask questions such as "What do you think will happen?" and "What do you notice is happening?" which stimulate interest and deepen the learning experience.

A Catholic Environment

When children learn in a Catholic environment it fosters an early understanding of how we grow and celebrate together. Our youngest learners engage in activities that offer experiences which reinforce attitudes, feelings and values inherent in faith-based living. A child's faith is nurtured every day and there are many opportunities to gather and participate in celebrations and prayer.

A Team Approach

Each kindergarten class is led by a team which includes a teacher and an Early Childhood Educator (ECE). The team works together to plan meaningful learning opportunities for the children. All team members observe, monitor and assess the development of the students, communicate with families and create a positive, welcoming and safe learning environment.

The Kindergarten Learning Environment

Our Kindergarten classrooms are dynamic learning spaces that have evolved. Classrooms are designed to encourage creativity and to support a child's natural curiosity and discovery. The spaces are carefully structured to facilitate discussion with peers and teachers, allow for small or large group discussion and are focused on giving children an opportunity to explore and discover within their environment.

Our Curriculum

Our program is based on the Ontario Ministry of Education, Kindergarten Program, 2016. Visit the Ministry of Education website for more information on the Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum.
