MindUP is a comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum framed around 15 easily implemented lessons that foster social and emotional awareness, enhance psychological well-being, and promote academic success. The program helps students learn to self-regulate their behavior and engage in focused concentration needed for academic success.
Children are taught how to improve their focus, reduce stress and anxiety, handle peer-to-peer conflict, manage their emotions and reactions, develop empathy towards others and choose optimism. They are given simple exercises like belly-breathing and counting to ten, to help them self-regulate. They also learn about the brain in order to better understand why they react to certain things and how to deal with those emotions.
