To support our Ojibway Languages studies as well as our First Nation programming, the KCDSB introduced an Elder in Residence program back in 2016. This school year we are excited to welcome Elder Terry Skead into the role.

An elder is an Indigenous person who is known and respected within the First Nation community as a Keeper of Knowledge. They have a wealth of life experience and knowledge in the traditions and culture of Indigenous peoples.

Terry works out of the Catholic Education Centre supporting all of the schools including St. John Paul II. He provides guidance, counsel and support to teachers, students and families as needed.

The goal of the program is to infuse cultural teachings and traditions into the classroom so that students understand and respect First Nation and Metis cultures.
